What does IPL laser hair removal involve?
The Palomar IPL laser produces highly controlled flashes of intense, pulsed light that are absorbed by the hair follicles below the surface of the skin. This absorbed light generates heat that damages the hair follicle and prevents regrowth. This results in hair reduction without damaging the surrounding skin tissue.

What is a treatment like?
After you are made comfortable we will trim away the hair above the skin and then apply a cold gel to the treatment area. The handpiece (IPL) is then gently passed over the treatment area while touching your skin without damaging surrounding areas. After your treatment, the gel and treated hair is wiped off your skin. You will wear dark glasses during your treatment to protect your eyes.

Will I feel anything during my treatment?
Dr. Leong’s patients tell us that during the treatment – each pulse of light – feels like a slight sting or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. Most patients have their treatment without anesthetic – but local anesthetic is available for those who want it.

Is IPL safe and effective for all hair and skin types?
Today’s lasers/IPL systems allow for customized treatment for all hair color, texture and body location. As long as the hair has some pigment – it can be effectively treated. IPL is also the first photoepilation procedure proven effective for all skin types – and all ethnicity.

What are the side effects?
With his specialized techniques, skill and training, Dr. Leong’s patients rarely experience side effects. Slight reddening or swelling at the treatment site may occur but resolves within a few hours.

Can I resume normal activity after a treatment?
Most of Dr.Leong’s patients return to work right after a treatment. You will need to limit sun exposure before and after each treatment.

What kind of results are typical?
In most skin types, Laser and IPL technology has created permanent hair reduction. In other words – each treatment reduces the number of hairs that grow in a given area so that over time hair growth is reduced in the treated areas.

How many treatments will I need?
Dr. Leong will be able to customize a treatment plan for you based upon your hair and skin type. On average, patients see results after 6-10 treatments.

Who is a good candidate for IPL/laser hair removal?
Men and women who are in good health, who have realistic expectations and who desire permanent hair reduction are good candidates.
